Variety 102

Obverse 2: Proof Die, Medium Level Date, Open 6

Reverse B: Proof Die, Diagonal Die Line Through (DI)ME

Obverse 2                                                Reverse B

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                   Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: The second obverse die to produce proof coinage can be identified by two diagnostic points. First the date is positioned slightly right vs. Obverse 1 resulting in a Denticle Ruler measurement of DR 1R. Secondly, there is no die line above LIBER(T)Y. Kam Ahwash lists this obverse die as the one used to strike proof coinage. Reverse B has a minor die line. This die line runs diagonally from (D)IME through the foot of D(I)ME and down into the lower right wreath. I believe this variety to be the PF-1 listing by Jeff Strutzel within issue #75 of the Gobrecht Journal.
