Obverse 2 Reverse D
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s) Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)
Comments: Obverse 2 is paired with Reverse D and starts to show die erosion especially at the die clash point under right arm. The lower shield exhibits weakness and the O of (OF) is broken on many examples seen. From this point on, nearly flat heads are the rule for Obverse 2.
On Reverse D, the mintmark placement is similar to that of Reverse A. One cannot differentiate the reverse dies based on mintmark placement. The primary diagnostic for Reverse D, in this die state, is a die crack starting in the lower left wreath and proceeding to the rim at 9:00.
