1891-S
Variety 102
Obverse 2: Medium Date, Strong Upward Slope, Closed 9
Reverse B: Small S, [mm C,H], Doubled Die Reverse #1
Obverse 2 Reverse B
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s) Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)
Comments: Obverse 2 is in an early die state when paired with Reverse B. The base of the 1 digit in the date is broken, while the 9 digit is closed.
Reverse B shows die doubling in the denomination and the left outer wreath leaves. I have designated Reverse B as Doubled Die Reverse #1 since there are multiple doubled reverse dies for 1891 San Francisco coinage. The Small S mintmark on Reverse B is positioned left and high.
Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, EF45
