Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: On 1868 Obverse 3, repunching above the base of the 1 digit is easily seen on most examples of this variety. Additional repunching can be seen within the bottom section of the lower loop of the 8 digit on higher grade examples.

This variety is moderately available in the circulated grades through VF. However, since releasing the web-book in 2004 and including this variety in the Top 100 Varieties set, I have yet to locate an AU or better specimen. A high grade example should be considered a numismatic prize and worthy of a considerable premium.
