Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Few Variety 105a business strike examples have been seen. In the Ahwash encyclopedia, the A-1 full obverse plate is that of the blundered obverse with the supplemental date image being that of the Ahwash 1 variety. The blundered obverse plate appears to be from a business strike dime when comparing the obverse plate coins between A-1 and A-5.

For the Blundered Date variety, the 1 digit was punched twice into the base directly above the 18 digits in the date. The full base and upright of the higher misplaced 1 is clearly visible below the end of the scroll. The left base of the second 1 digit is visible below the upper blundered digit. This obverse again exhibits radial die lines in Liberty's upper body, lower gown and shield. The upper shield and gown area to the right of the shield appears rough, as if from a rusted die.
