Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Random die lines are once again seen on Liberty's midsection and legs. Obverse 2 and Obverse 8 exhibit nearly identical date punch positions. Collectors should identify the locations of the random die lines including the Obverse 2 die line directly below fifth shield line as a comparison method for diagnosing the two obverse dies.

The date placement on Obverse 8 and 12 is also nearly identical and could lead to the conclusion that Obverse 12 is a later polished die state of Obverse 8. A comparison of the full (S)TATES on Obverse 12 against the partial (S)TATES on Obverse 8 rules out this possibility as polishing of Obverse 8 would lead to an open (S)TATES on Obverse 12. Further examination of Obverse 8 and 12 examples also reveals differences in die scratch or die lines which further supports the conclusion.
