Comments: Variety 116 is yet another die pairing between a reasonably well struck obverse and a well worn and rusted reverse die. The obverse on Variety 116 appears to match Obverse 11 based on date placement and is listed as such. The plate coin has roller marks on the left side and makes attribution difficult.
Reverse P is extremely worn and rusted. The rust is most evident in the right wreath and corn ear. The mintmark on Reverse P is centered and high.
Bill Mackrides is credited with the discovery of this variety and providing to the author during 2008. More research is definitely warranted for 1875-S Below Wreath dimes to explain the reasons for reverse quality problems.
