Reverse B.2: Proof, Excessively Polished Die, Die Defect On Corn Ear

Obverse 2.2                                            Reverse B.2

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse 2 and Reverse B have been lapped or polished prior to striking proof coinage. Obverse 2 shows reduced depth in devices with the base directly above the last two 8 digits in the date being substantially weakened. The die defect between a denticle and the left foot of the 1 digit has been removed.

Reverse B has been excessively lapped. The left ribbon end, in particular, is nearly effaced. Severe weakness in the lower left wreath is also present. The die defect or blob on the corn ear continues to be obvious and remains as the major diagnostic marker for Reverse B. This reverse die will continue to see considerable usage after striking proof coinage.
