Comments: On all 1877 dimes, the flag of the second 7 in the date is positioned lower than the flag of the
first 7. The base of the second 7 digit is longer and slightly wider than that of the first 7. Occasionally,
dealers or eBay sellers will attempt to highlight these characteristics as a separate variety.

This date requires additional study for repunched dates and misplaced digits. Kam Ahwash indicated that,
"44 Obverse and 37 Reverse dies, together with eleven dies held over from 1876 used in this (1877) year. The
eleven old dies that were held over were all Type I's."
