Comments: On the obverse, there is a long vertical die scratch originating below Liberty's armpit and dropping down into her right leg. This is the last of the 1853 With Arrow obverse dies published by John McCloskey in the March 1980 issue of the Gobrecht Journal. On Reverse I, a die crack has formed from rim to tops of (UNI)TED and back to the rim. The potential for a retained cud is present above (UNI)TED on this reverse die. However, I have yet to find an example with a later die state rim cud. Do not confuse Reverse I with Reverse U, as both have cracks or rim cuds at the tops of UNITED. Examine the reverses of any specimens in question at STATES, the die cracks there will be different in that location.
