Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: This is a scarce date and arrow placement variety within 1853 With Arrows unhubbed obverse die set. After years of examining 1853 With Arrows dimes, I have seen three examples of this variety, the first grading G4, another grading VF20 and finally the plate coin. The obverse has been weakly struck on the VF20 and EF40 examples. Obverse 18 exhibits a group of die scratches through Liberty's mid section. The die scratches can be seen entering the body from the left side and exiting on the right side.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, EF40
