Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Repunching is clearly visible under the bottom of the left arrow. The date and arrow placement positions appear to match those of Variety 101 Obverse 1, the 1853 With Arrows proof die. However, the device, arrows and date details on Obverse 1 are shallower than this business strike. Also, the proof die is clashed while this business strike example is not. Could it be that Obverse 20 was polished at some point in its life to strike the few proof 1853 With Arrows examples known today? It would be necessary to once again locate a proof example to compare directly to Obverse 20.
