Variety 114a

Obverse 13.2: Medium Level Date, Die Scratches at Right Armpit, Open 5

Reverse N.2: Perfect Die

Obverse 13                                              Reverse N

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Obverse 13 has been polished and now exhibits a weak date with no signs of repunching on the date digits. Th 5 digit is open. The two die scratches forming an (X) in Liberty's right armpit remain very visible. Use these scratches as the primary diagnostic for a late die state Obverse 13 die. Reverse N shows no signs of die lines behind UNITED or (D)IME. It is not possible to determine if the reverse on the plate coin is a new reverse die pairing with Obverse 13 or a polished Reverse N. For simplicity, I've chosen to list the reverse as a later die state of Reverse N.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, ANACS AU50
