Obverse 4: Medium Date, Slight Downward Slope, Small Knob 6, Clashed Die

Obverse 4                                              Reverse D

Obverse Diagnostic Point(s)                   Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Reverse D is sharply doubled on the denomination. The doubling on the two E's in ONE DIME is the primary diagnostic for this variety. Most examples come with strong die clashing on both the obverse and reverse.

Late die states of Obverse 4 will show a die crack through the date digits and moving up through the base and edge of Liberty's foot out to AMERIC(A) and to the rim.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, EF45
