Comments: A fifth 1876-S Type II die pairing was discovered in 2006 by Dick Osburn. The obverse and reverse dies are designated as Obverse 4 and Reverse C. Obverse 4 is difficult to diagnose by date position alone since the Medium Level Date and Small Knob 6 is similar in appearance to Obverse 3. One must also check the lower gown area directly above the foot, on Obverse 4, to locate a circular die defect as noted in the illustration.

Reverse C is the third known Type II reverse die. Reverse C comes with a Small Block S mintmark that is positioned left and center.
