Comments: Numerous obverse and reverse die marriages have been identified for dies used to strike the Carson City
In Wreath variety. Strike weakness is common for the head area and near the reverse rims. Rim cuds and late die state
are encountered for both In Wreath and Below Wreath dimes.

A portion of In Wreath dimes were struck with a leftover 89 reed collar from 1874 before migrating to the standard 113 reed
collar. Individual variety pages will specify which collar style was employed for each variety.

During the summer of 2010, the author performed an extensive analysis of 1875 Carson City obverses and reverse dies
employed to strike both In Wreath and Below Wreath coinage. Those findings were published in a summary article in the
winter 2011 Gobrecht Journal edition and were also used to extensively update the 1875-CC In Wreath and Below Wreath
chapters. From this research, the author believes that In Wreath reverse dies were first used to strike Carson City
coinage in 1875.
