Liberty Seated Collector Club
The Liberty Seated Collector Club (LSCC) is a group of over 600 collectors and dealers dedicated to the study and attribution of silver Liberty Seated coinage of the 19th century. The LSCC is a non-profit organization and focuses on the breath of Liberty Seated coinage including Seated half dimes, Seated dimes, Seated quarters, Seated half dollars, Seated dollars and Trade dollars. The LSCC mission is to encourage, promote and dispense numismatic knowledge of Liberty Seated coins; to cultivate fraternal relations among its members and all those interested in the science of numismatics.
The Liberty Seated Collector Club website is available at http://www.lsccweb.org. The website is well organized and information concerning officers, club calendar and resources page that includes a Gobrecht Journal Comprehensive Index. The website also provides a sampling of Gobrecht Journal articles at the LSCC Online Articles link.
Liberty Seated Collector Club Membership
The annual membership dues for the LSSC are a very reasonable $20. Individual interested in joining the Liberty Seated Collector Club can correspond directly with John McCloskey, President LSCC, 5718 King Arthur Drive, Kettering, Ohio 45429. President John McCloskey can be reached by e-mail at John.McCloskey@notes.udayton.edu.
Gobrecht Journal
The LSCC publishes the Gobrecht Journal (GJ) three times per year. Each issue is 52 pages in length and the issues are distributed to club members in March, July and November of each year. The Gobrecht Journal contains original manuscripts on the Liberty Seated coinage from the half dime to the Trade dollar. Articles discuss the rarity of specific dates and varieties in each of the series, some identify the obverse and reverse die pairs used to strike particular issues while others give information on the authentication of specific dates in the series. The history of the 19th century as it relates to Seated coinage is the topic of some articles while others list the contents of famous collections of Seated coinage. Other articles discuss the minting process and attempts are made to describe how some unusual pieces were produced at the mint. Club members have written articles that provide speculation on which dates are perceived to be overrated or underrated in relations to current retail prices.
LSCC members are encouraged to describe their personal experiences while collecting Seated coinage, and articles frequently indicate which issues are overrated or underrated in relation to current retail prices. The E-Gobrecht contains information of a more timely nature, such as recent auction sales, Ebay happenings, announcements related to upcoming major shows and exhibits, etc.
Ads for Seated coinage appear in the Gobrecht Journal. There ads offer opportunities to buy Seated coins from LSCC members. Each issue of the journal presents a diversity of articles that typically contain information or commentary on each of the Seated coinage series. The diversity of Gobrecht Journal articles should appeal to any collector or dealer with an interest in gaining incremental Liberty Seated coinage knowledge.
