Comments: In this early die state, Obverse 1 is paired with Reverse A. Obverse 1 shows no signs of die clashing. Instead Obverse 1 exhibits die cracks from STATE(S) through Liberty's head, through the cap and bottoms of OF AMERICA and into the foot and base. Ahwash states that the 1 digit is repunched in his encyclopedia. However, I see no evidence of this observation on the plate coin.

Reverse A has a Medium O mintmark that tilts slightly left. The important diagnostic is a die crack from the rim at 4:30 through the outer oak leaf.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, PCGS AU50
