Comments: Obverse 27 is free of diagnostic defects. Other 1891-O obverse dies with date position DR -1B0 are seen with repunching in the date digits. A close review of the above date macro image shows that the date punch is slightly oblique with the top of 189 digits more pronounced than at the bottom. The final 1 digit is weakly punched and has inconsistent positioning with the other digits on the gang punch.
Reverse CC is also perfect. The Medium O mintmark has a strong right tilt. It would appears that the plate coin was an early strike from this die pair.
