Variety 105b

Obverse 4.2: Repunched 52, High Level Date, Die Cracks

Reverse E.3: Retained Cud at Tops of UNIT(ED S)TATES

Obverse 4.2                                                Reverse E.3

 Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: Reverse E degrades further with a retained cud joining the tops of UNITE(D S)TATES. Notice the disappearance of the denticles within the retained cud on Reverse E. During the earlier partial cud Variety 105a die state, the denticles are still visible and complete. The later Variety 105b die state, with the retained cud, is very challenging to locate in higher circulated grades or Mint State. The author knows of no Mint State examples of this late die state.
