Variety 112

Obverse 10: High Level Date, Weak Lower Shield Lines

Reverse L.2: Partial Cud at (UNIT)ED, Horizontal Bisecting Die Crack Through DIME

Obverse 10                                                Reverse L.2

Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)

Comments: In this late die state, the earlier Reverse L die crack through (UNIT)ED progressively worsens with the die nearly broken. A metal shelf forms at the rim below (U)NITED and consumes the letters U(NI)TED and finally crosses through the top of UNI(T)ED back to the rim. This is the first Variety 112 example seen with a well defined partial cud.

The horizontal and bisecting die crack starting at UNI(TE)D through the left wreath leaves, through DIME and the right wreath has not progressed in severity on the plate coin and is well covered by the dark toning.

Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, F15
