Obverse 12.2 Reverse K.2
Obverse Diagnostic Point(s) Reverse Diagnostic Point(s)
Comments: In this late die state, Obverse 12 degrades further with acute die weakness in the shield. Rust damage continues to be evident throughout Liberty's upper body and the shield. The die defect below UNIT(ED) remains visible on the plate coin which grades nearly Very Fine.
On Reverse K, the prior parallel die breaks have become one massive die break in the lower right wreath from 3:00 to 4:30. The Small CC mintmark is level and well spaced and sits below the ribbon ends.
This late die state variety is rare and appears much less often than the popular Double Die Obverse, Repunched 18 and Misplaced Date varieties.
Plate Coin: G. Fortin Collection, VF20
